Elena started her PhD research in 2002 on mechanisms of emmetropization. She is working on chicken myopia models and is developing a Hartmann-Shack system to measure aberrations in the normal and treated chicken eye. Her goal is to understand the implications of the aberrations on myopia development. She has been funded by a CSIC-Unidades Asociadas fellowship, and performes collaborative work with the Institute of Ophthalmobiology (IOBA) in Valladolid. She has been a visitor to Frank Schaeffel's lab at the University of Tubingen.
