Corneal infections produced by bacteria, acanthoameba and fungi are a serious ocular complications. Although successful treatments rely on early detection and specificity in the diagnosis, in vivo imaging of these pathogens is difficult due to their low reflectivity and relatively small size. In collaboration with groups with wide expertise in fluorescence labels, molecular synthesis and cell biology, we will make use our newly developed section microscopy tools (in a fluorescence mode) to determine the specificity of new fluorescent probes and their use of early detection of ocular pathogens
